What data we collect

We log each routing request and response, which means that we record:

  • Your IP address
  • The route you requested (e.g. start and end point)
  • The route(s) we suggested to you

We use this information to track down and fix bugs. We also use it to see how many people are generating routes from different countries - just for our own interest!

Location access

The Trail Router web app, Android app and iOS app all access your location data. Your location is used in order to:

  1. Suggest a starting point for your running routes
  2. Show your live location on a map as you carry out your runs

Additionally, Trail Router on Android and iOS will also access your location data when the app is in the background whilst you are in turn-by-turn navigation mode. This is done so that Trail Router can provide you audio prompts of when to make turns.

You do not need to grant access to your location data in order to use Trail Router, but if you do not, then the above functionality will be unavailable.

Data sharing with third parties

We do not make use of tracking cookies or analytics tools, such as Google Analytics. We do not share any of the information we collect with any third party, full stop.

Data retention policy

We store web server logs for 90 days, after which they are purged.

Account deletion

Trail Router allows you to create an account via OAuth using a Google or Apple account. This allows you to save your favourite routes. We do not store any of your personal information. We do store a unique numeric identifier for you, which is obtained from Google or Apple. To request complete deletion of all your records, please contact sam@trailrouter.com
